Medchart and Access 2000/2002/
2003
Microsoft Access 2002 is the latest version of Microsoft Access.
Medchart uses Access 97 (or Access 8.0) as the database engine.
Access 2000/2002 is not fully backward compatible with Access
97. Access 97 is a stable product and is preferred by many developers
over the newer version. I will list a few important points below:
If you have Access 97 and wish to upgrade to Access 2000/2002
make sure you keep Access 97 (there is an option during Access
2000 or Office 2000 setup to do this). Access (or Office)
2000/2002 should be installed to a different folder than Access
97 (e.g. "Office2K")
Medchart can be run on a system with Access 2000 but make
sure you select the "install Access run-time files"
during the install procedure.
The data files used by Medchart should not be converted to
Access 2000 format as the program will not be able to read
them
If you have replicated your data files Access 2000or 2002
are only able to access the data in a "read- only"
fashion.
The run-time version of Access 2000 may disable other Access
97 databases if Access 2000 is not installed.
A version of Medchart that will run under Access 2000 is also
available.
This
link on the Microsoft web-site has detailed instructions
on loading both versions of Access on one computer.
